Trunk release issues

I have a problem with my trunk. The trunk release button in the cabin and on the fob do not release my trunk. I hear the actuator fire, and from inside my trunk I see it move. The valet lock in in the correct position and the trunk will not open. I can even manually move the actuator and the trunk still will not open. I can see the cable attached to the emergency release move. I am thinking that maybe the latch on the trunk is too far to the passenger side. Has anyone had a similar issue? I don't really want to start playing with the alignment of items if it could be something else. Thanks
