I am having a problem with the trunk release on my '93 300zx. Pulling the trunk release lever in the car does release the lock on the trunk, however the trunk does not stay released. So, when I let go of the lever the trunk is locked again. This means that I must always use the key to open the trunk, or jam an object under the release lever to hold it in the open position.

How is the trunk release supposed to work? Is the trunk supposed to pop up a little bit (perhaps from pressure of the rubber gasketing) when released, or is the trunk lock supposed to stay unlocked until the trunk is re-closed?

I've got the same exact problem but never looked into it, would be nice to have a fix though, its a real pain having to either have 2 people to open the hatch or having to take the key out of the ignition

From my experience, the problem is that the hatch doesnt "pop" out of the locking mechanism anymore. Several people i have know with this problem loosened the mechanism and moved it down and re-tightened. This made it pop out when you pulled the lever. If you are having the problem i think you are.

Try to keep the lock mechanism as straight as possible (dont get one side higher than the other) because that can cause other problems. Let me know if this works or not in your case.
