99 Infiniti Q trunk pulldown motor not working. Diagnostic test points to "control units" but I would like to know further whether it is the control module specifically, or the motor before I choose the solution. The difference is about 100 dols, and the two choices are either the control module or the entire assembly which also includes the motor. Not wanting to waste time and money by going for the whole thing when it may only be the control module is my problem. Is there a way to apply power to the motor to test it before I obtain a new control module, or should I bite the bullet on this. Everything else functions; the open/close, switches, etc...hope there is some history out there on this issue, because without the pulldown, water can enter the trunk compartment and cause a lot of damage.

I haven't heard of this before, so it's not a common failure.

There's a diagnostic procedure in the factory service manual starting at page EL-208. One of those steps is to apply voltage to the motor, just as you describe, to see if it works.

Good luck!
