I have no idea what has happened here, the trunk button on the inside has stopped working but the FOB trunk button works with no issues. The car is a 2004 G35X and any time the car is passes reverse the trunk pops open??

Why the heck does the trunk pop open whenever the car goes into reverse or by reverse to get to drive?

Has anyone had this issues before, thanks for the help.

Wow...another weird trunk issue. Not sure. Has anything been done to the car recently?

I installed an MP3 connector to the satellite connection in the back of the radio but that was about 2 months ago and this problem just started about a week ago.

Sounds like a wire crossed between the reverse lamps and the trunck release solenoid. Weird though...

Just for grins, you might disconnect the battery overnight in case there's a weird issue with a control module that can be reset that way.

Ive reset the ECU multiple times by doing the gas peddle trick and still no luck.. Let me give you a brief rundown.

I installed the MP3 jack thing in the back of the radio satellite connection since she doesn't have satellite radio. At first everything worked fine for about a month, then after that, the car started popping the trunk in reverse. Now in the past week, the trunk has stopped working all together. Nothing opens the trunk, the little toggle, the fob, even going into reverse doesn't do it anymore. So i have it ghetto rigged and have connected a piece of twine to the trunk emergency release till she figures out this problem.

It just baffles me why this has been a slow progression with the only time i touched the car is to install the mp3 adapter. So I took the adapter out 3 days ago and checked all the wires behind the radio and navigation and nothing seems off yet the trunk still doesn't open. If it was a crossed wire or something, Im guessing that the problem would have started immediately after the install.

This is just soooooo odd. Also, I checked all fuses multiple times.

Anyone who can help is a life saver.

Thanks

That's it

It sounds really bad but if you think about there is a short to power somewhere, or a wrong connector plugged in somewhere. If the OP is lucky the tail lights and trunk release work when they are supposed to. If the OP is unlucky there is going to be a break in the harness. The tail light and trunk release mechanism are all wired and located in the trunk itself.

I would start by removing the rubber boot from the passenger side of the trunk from the trunk side first and pull it back to inspect the wires. The trunk moves allot and those wires get brittle over time.

Good Luck.

Hi,

Signed up to respond to this. I had the same problem and it turned out to be shorted wires. I found all the wires running from the body into the trunk lid inside the rubber tube had broken insulation. The wires fold when you open/close the trunk lid and the insulation must have worn down from the movement. I had to cut and solder all the wires. It wasn't that frustrating, just took some time. Hopefully your short is in a easy to find location.

My car is a 05 G35x.
