:help I have a problem with my trunk not popping open like a trunk should. I have to put something in between the trunk lever so that it stays up or I have to hold the lever while someone opens my trunk.

Well if anyone has experienced this problem I was hoping you can help me. I do not want to panic and buy new locks or whatever.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Damn, I sound like a newbie!

Loosen the lock assembly and push it down as far as it'll go, which may be only a few mm. Then tighten it again and go on your merry way.

On the S14, there's a "valet" function that will prevent the trunk from being opened using the release lever by the driver's seat.

Take a look at the latch where it mounts to the chassis inside of the trunk (not the trunk lid) and notice the rectangular opening inside of the trunk exposing a small protruding tab on the latch itself. Put your finger under the tab and pull the mechanism up. It will click into position. If you ever want to disable it again, just push the tab down.

The problem you ran into is due to the latch being slightly worn and slipping into the lower position when you pull the release lever.

Hey, try moving the lock like crazy said, but you have a hatch so it wont blow open like a coupe. My levers spring sucks so the level just stays up. Ill check my hatch when i get home and see if there are springs or what not that are supposed ot make it pop up an inch to get it passed the lock like its supposed to. WIll the hatch stay open when its totaly lifter up? (are the shocks good?)

Sorry to bump a 5 year old thread but I am having the same problem with my 240... When you say push the lock assembly down do you mean the key cylinder or the latch mechanism that locks the trunk into place? I am assuming you are referring to the latch mechanism but I just wanted to be sure before I go tearing into my 240... Thanks

For anyone that has the problem it is actually the latching mechanism itself that needs to be moved... I actually had to lower mine past the lowest point that the chassis allowed. You may have to grind the guides down to make a little more room for the latch to go even lower like I did.

Or you could replace the worn out weather stripping and have less wind noise while you are at it.

8 years ago, and just made my night. It's pretty frustrating needing two people to pop the hatch, haha. Thanks!
