lol brings back memories. I had a GF that forgot to use the piece of wood to hold up the hatch on my mustang. That didn't turn out good.M4T5 wrote:Not all cars will spring open the trunk lid. Mine is stiff too, so I'm guessing we will all just have to call it normal. I don't see greasing the strut cylinders will help due to them being an oiled filled strut. At least it has resistance to hold up the trunk lid.If you want it to raise on its own, you could always add a powered hydraulic strut. I'm sure some car audio guys could do this. Just be glad the trunk lid isn't falling down after you raise it.

Ahhh a classic! The ole piece of wood or cut down broom stick prop! I've even seen people keep a pair of vice grips under the hood or in the trunk by their worn out strut assists! They would open the hood or trunk and lock down the vice grips onto the strut cylinder. I guess it was a better option than a customed out prop rod!jeostang wrote:

I know my 07' M45's trunk doesn't pop open a few inches. It just unlocks it. You wouldn't know it was open unless you knew you popped it. Is there an idicator that tells you it is unlocked or open in the dash for the 06' & up M's?szhosain wrote:Hmmm, as far as I know, the original Infiniti intention was to just pop the trunk lid open a few inches. Then, the rest of it was to be done manually - (although I don't consider my trunk struts to be that stiff per se).
Anyway, that is why Jason Burtman came up with his product to do the full open for Infiniti M45 and Q45 (both had the same limitation).
I did not know that the NAPA struts raised all the way ... I thought it was just to do the same the original OEM, i.e, just pop it open a few inches.
