Hi, 03 M45 has an issue with the trunk lid. I thouhgt the trunk struts problem. However there was an article about that on the service bulletine provided by ALLDATAdiy.com. (below)

As the descrition, the trunk lid closure assembly and harness have to be replaced.
Does anyone know about that?

2003-2004 M45; TRUNK LID RE-LATCHES (BY ITSELF) AFTER IT IS OPENED BY KEY FOB OR SWITCH
APPLIED VEHICLE(S):
2003-2004 M45 (Y34)

IF YOU CONFIRM: The trunk lid, after being opened with the key fob or switch, opens, closes, and relatches by itself.
ACTION: Replace the Trunk Lid Closure Assembly and add a sub-harness with the parts listed in this bulletin.

Thanks.

Hmmm ... in my case, the fix was to replace the struts.

I don't remember seeing this TSB before and it does appear to be old enough that I should have seen it ... will have to ask the dealer about it when I am in next!

I wish it is the strut problem since they are cheaper than the lid assembly.

I have the same problem with my 2004M in the winter. The struts don't respond fast enough in the cold so it relocks itself. Never heard of the latching assembly being a problem. Seems to me that is what it is supposed to do. My low tech solution is to open the truck with the key fob and grab it before it relatches.

I have the opposite problem, wasn't sure it was a problem until you all mentioned your issue. I have a 2008 M35x and I have to actually slam my trunk for it to lock.

I guess that it shouldn't be that difficult for my trunk to lock? Should I get it checked out the next time I bring my car to the dealer?

Thanks

I do the same as Les Baer. There's also a keyhole under the trunk lip if you ever need it.

I'm about to put a rubber bumper at the closure area to assist the rise of the trunk lid above the "grab sensor".

I always thought that little extra help in locking the trunk was a nice, but cute feature. I could actually do without it. Do you know how to disable the grab sensor. I can do without it. It would have been nicer to have a fully automatic open the trunk full way and then close it. Where are you putting the rubber bumper. I may try the same thing.

Could you post a picture of the "rubber bumper" method if it works for you? This issue really bothers me every time I use a trunk.

I sure can. I'll be in the "test lab" for a bit though.
Got to get my fuel gauge fixed first.

You got the fuel gauge issue, too?
I recently gave up. Since the only remedy is to replace the cluster, it will cost me around $300 including my labor.
Good luck.

I sure do. Just happened. I think I’m going to remove the cluster & see if I can identify the fail point.

I also submitted a complaint at NHTSA. If enough of us describe what a horrible safety concern this is, it might be recalled.
