car is a 92 240sx and i just got it a few days ago but i found about an inch of water in my trunk where the spare tire is. The leak must be somewhat slow because we got hammered with rain but i noticed that the weather stripping around the trunk is chewed up badly for about a 3 inch section on the right hand side of the trunk. The leak appears to be comming in from the left though because the left side of the carpet is somewhat stained. Can the 3 inch weatherstrip gap on the right be causing this leak on the left?

thankyou!

The rain this past weekend got me too - came in my sunroof pretty bad.

I can't explain why the strip is gone on the right but leaked on the left, but I do know that without that black weather stripping the trunk will leak pretty good. When my car was painted the guy didn't put it back on, and before I realized it it rained and I got a good puddle in my trunk. Try to either replace or fix it before we get more.

Take the carpet out, close the trunk, and pour water all over it and let it sit for a minute then open the trunk, see if that helps you find the leak.

drill more holes in the spare tire area .

Was your car parked slightly tilted to the left? A slow leak can drip down and around... Those water droplets are tricky bastards.

But the only thing keeping it from getting into the trunk is the weather stripping. So if the 3 inch chunk is missing on the right side i dont understand how it could get in on the left....theres still stripping there. Theres absolutly no sign of water being on the right side at all.

Ill try to replace the stripping this weekend and see if that helps.

my friend, i had also the same issue but though your issue is from the weather stripping if u still find urself in a rut. Attempt the method that i used with taking out the rear lights there is a seal around there that if stock was not put on correct u have to get more from a nissan dealership. That did it for me until i got another recent leak i cant find.

I have the same problem. I found a post detailing how to change the lense seals, just have not tried it yet. Let me know if you want it.
