Trunk latch

do verts ever come with a lockable trunk latch -the lever inside the car to open the trunk and the gas door? If not, has anyone retrofitted one from another Nissan? I don't always want to put the top up when I go inside a store, but the glove box is the only place you can put items in and have it locked safely.

i never thought of this . now i'm gonna be paranoid.

i guess when the top is down people are too busy staring and drooling to realize they can get in the trunk and take something.

yes. there's a switch in the back right below the latch. up is unlocked and you can open the trunk from the remote release, and down is locked. you need a key.

if you look in the owner's manual supplement, it shows the lock latch.

Yeah, I didn't know about that and spent a couple of hours trying to "repair" my release when I purchased the car. I thought the damn thing was broken!

LOL - I did the same thing with my fuel door release - Spent 30 minutes in a gas station in CA (right after I bought the car) trying to open fuel door. Tank on empty, hungry, tired, frustrated, in a hurry....

Pushed the lever down as hard as I could... Finally went in through the trunk and manually released it.

Just learned last week (a month after buying it) that you have to push in AND down. :beatfreak

Nope - Read FSM, you have to push it in like an "L" pattern....

yup, it's an L pattern...and where the heck are you guys reading this stuff in the FSM? i can't find any of it.

just checked mine. apparently, the lock has been worn down and it is more of an angle now. when you push down, it automatically slides inwards as it goes down. i had to phyiscally push the lever outwards to get it to hit the lock.

and they should be saying owner's manual and supplement, not FSM. you're not going crazy, D.

i must be "slow" because i cant find this switch, any chance someone could take a picture or scan the fsm or both ???

Open your trunk and look at the latch. It'll have a little lever on it with a black rubber "handle" (very small). That's to defeat the interior trunk release.

mine didn't have a black cover on it, but it's attached to the latch mechanism in the trunk. Look in your owners' manual. It should be in the first or second chapter.

I have the black cover, but the snaps are missing on the body panels. Blink.Somewhat related, is there an aftermarket set of springs that'll actually open the trunk when the trigger is released and / or hold it up when the trunk is open? Mine is a two person open. I CAN'T GET IT UP!

your gas struts are probably shot (they're attached to the accordian structure that supports the trunk). you'll have to go to a dealership for those.

You wouldn't happen to have a part number would you? I haven't received my convertible suppliment yet. How much should you pay for a good set of S14 front seats for your S13?Sorry about the many and unrelated questions, get used to it I need all the technical help I can get.

Matt - Don't go to the dealership for the trunk struts. Gimme a minute to search, there's a set at PepBoys that will fit your car (where is that part #?)

Does "BoyWonder" know you have a parts car? He'd give his right leg for the passenger door.

The parts car is a coupe but all parts are for sale EXCEPT parts I need for the manual swap, the motor and some of the front suspension.It's in pretty good shape, some rust on the underside but not terrible.

also, the supplement doesn't have part numbers in it. i generally call up courtesy parts in texas to get part numbers.

And for the S14 seats, I don't know. try searching 240 Gen or posting in 240 Gen about it.

NICO member "Anand" has a set of S14 seats for sale cheap. They're nice. Direct bolt-in.
