OK - the other day as a friend and I walked up behind my car (coupe), he asked me how do I get into the trunk if the battery is dead.

This may sound stupid, but I never before (in 18 months) even noticed there was no manual keylock to open the trunk. How DO you get in if the battery's dead?

There is a manual pull-latch of some kind, in my 350Z, for this exact situation ( no power)

I wouoldnt be surprised its the same in the G35C.

I dont have my car with me I will give you exact description of location when I get home from work.

Fred..

PS: Good to see you back Stu!

Umm, I've never thought about it either. I know you can pull the back seat down and their is a release latch in the trunk, but that would not be conveniet to do. I'll have to check that out when I get home.

My wife's Acura CL does not have a key for the trunk either - the inside has a lever that you pull up to release. Mechanical augment of the remote. I would be surprised if the G35 does not have something similar!

If the battery is dead, there is a "Secondary Trunk Lid Release" mechanism. The primary is a switch next to the VDC switch.

The wording in the Owner's Manual:
"The secondary trunk lid release mechanism allows opening the trunk of the trunk lid in the event of a loss of electrical power such as a discarged battery. The handle is located on the back side of the trunk lid inside the trunk compart.

SEDAN: Access the handle through the interior trunk access hole (rear seat armrest). Return the handle to the original position by securing the latch. Otherwise, it may cause water to leak into the trunk.

COUPE: Access the handle from the rear seat. Fold down the rear seatback by pulling the strap, located at center bottom of the seatback sideways. To open the trunk lid from the rear seat, pull the release handle toward front of vehicle until the lock releases."[/quote]This is described (with pictures) in the Owners Manual.

So very akward though. Especially if you have a bunch of stuff in the trunk and have to move it all to get to the trunk lid handle. I wonder if the will put a release in the drivers compartment in the 05 model for convenience sake.

Yeah, I suppose, but how often will you really need to open the trunk without the remote and the car battery is dead (there is a switch for it when the car battery is working normally)?

Ideally, it should be very rare to be in this problem situation, right?

I understand now. There is a switch in the driver's compartment next to the VDC and Dimmer switch. Somehow I missed this point in the earlier posts.

I learned something new about my car today. I didn't know that there was a trunk switch inside the car.

In all reality, it will be far easier to get a set of jumper cables to charge the battery for a couple minutes than to crawl into the trunk.

i moved my VDC swithc to between the front seats so i don't accidentally hit my trunk release button when I go to turn off VDC in a hurry at a stop light.

On the 350Z, the release is under the rear stru tower brace ( outside cladding).

Sorry to reopen an old thread, but no one has asked this question in forums, amazing.
How do you fold down the back seat on a 2003 sedan to put the Christmas tree in there?

I believe the sedan only has a pass-through, thus, the seat itself does not fold.
