Ok so I have a 1990 240sx and that hood has been stuck shut for a while now. In the beginning, it slid back a little so that you had to hold the cable and open it simultaneously otherwise it wouldn't open. Then it got stuck shut where the key or the latch/cable won't open it.

I unbolted the top of the hatch thinking I could push it back up so I could open. No luck there, the trunk pistons / struts just shoved it so far back I couldn't bolt it back in place. I've been rebuilding the engine so I wasn't too worried about til now when the engine is almost completed.

Anyway, my question is, I can pull the top of the trunk open now, to get access to the trunk area (about a foot in the top cause the latch is so far back.) Can I pry off the pistons by lifting the top of the trunk open without shattering the window? Anyone else ever have this ridiculous problem and did it without shattering the hatch window? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: also I'm going to try and crawl back there and make sure the valet switch isn't tripped tomorrow, to double check it, I'm pretty sure it isn't tripped, but maybe the lock cylinder just doesn't work anymore before someone responds with that.

if i were you, i would just try crawling back there through where the back seat folds down with a flashlight and un-bolt the entire latch mechanism.
mines would mess up and do things like this, but then i lubed it up and its been perfect since. (:

^^^ that sounds like the best idea considering the situation you're in.

Ok, so I got the latch unbolted, 2 bolts in the back on the top right? My friend gets out of work at 7, I'll keep you posted. But I think the back of the trunk latch (on the hatch) is resting on the lip of the trunk, cause by myself I can't get the latch to move far enough back to pull the trunk out. The lip of the trunk is sticking almost an inch behind the car, I think the pistons shoved it there.

I got it fixed. I slammed the latch back til it came out, so the trunk came out, then I took off the nissan lifter rods. It's back in the factory place, but now the latch is stuck. Ah well I give up, the engine is retarded still anyway. At least it's closed again
