A very quick question for y'all ;)

After driving back from Tampa Airport to Sarasota in the 240SX last night (I just got back from Taiwan where I never saw a single 240SX there) I noticed that my hard shell samsonite case was pretty darn hot as I took it out of the trunk.

I then instinctively touched the carpet on the left side above the muffler and it felt pretty hot indeed, after pulling back the carpet and gingerly touching the metal I got the impression I could fry eggs in an emergency with the amount of heat!!!

Anybody else noticed "hot metal" ?:ylsuper in the back of your 240SX?

Are you concerned about it

Maybe you have an exhaust leak.

did you check if your heat sheilding was still in place? also, like entity said, you may have a leak that shoots exhaust gases upward and heats your trunk.

The exhaust is the standard version.

I have noticed that the rear silencer (muffler) is starting to rot on the underside, however, there is no indication so far that it has blown.

I'll get down and check to see if the heat shielding is in place later this morning, as well as to check the condition of the upper side of the muffler - I'm up early today due to Jet Lag!

Assuming that you guys are not having "cook outs" in your trunks it would seem logical that hot gases are in fact being blasted up towards the trunk floor.

I'll report back later on - thanks for the suggestions :)
