I originally put a washcloth over the latch so it wouldnt close on me, it slipped off some time last night and now the trunks closed. I dont have the trunk key, and the cars electrical system has been removed... but the trunk contains my tools and 1/2 of the parts that I am parting out! Does the trunk have an emergency release you can access from inside the trunk like many other cars? I figured pulling the rear seats should be able to get me in there for the tools/parts but im a big guy and there isnt much room for climbing in Any ideas guys

Just a guess, but couldn't you remove the trunk release switch in the DS door and activate it using a couple of wires and the battery removed from the car?

I should have explained that when you push the button on the door to open the trunk, what you're doing is sending a signal to the trunk lock actuator mounted on the trunk lock to pull the lock open. It's not like my Hondas where you're pulling on a handle attached to a cable to open the trunk.

I looked at my spare switch from the door. It's got 4 wires- Black, white, red, green. Figure out which two wires are the pos and neg going to the actuator on the trunk lock, touch leads from a battery to them, and the actuator should pop the lock open. As far as figuring out which two wires, the FSM diagrams in the back of the book will show you. Good luck

FSM is in the trunk too unfortunately . I understand what your saying but I think the battery might be a little strong to connect to the actuator, I dont want to have it shut on me forever and end up taking an axe to the trunk. I know I had a second copy somewhere, we will see what I can scrounge up in the garage

You're going to get 12 volts to the switch whether it comes through the fuse box and electrical harnesses or directly off the battery with 2 jumper wires. What will freeze up the actuator in the trunk is touching the wrong two wires. Hence the need for a FSM. I know nothing about electrical to tell you which wires are it. Hopefully someone with an FSM and some electrical knowledge will wake up soon. Have another cup of coffee.

I can't locate a FSM on this site anywhere. Did some searching, clicked a bunch of links but all I could find was a 94. Is the 94 applicable to this situation?

The 94 FSM will be applicable and it's the oldest one available online. Look at the FSM schematic and it looks like the signal goes throuth the trunk lock switch in the glovebox and then to the actuator in the rear.

I'm very weak on electrical but I think you should be able to put the negative lead of the battery to a chassis ground and the positive lead to one of the two wires on the connector to this switch and it should pop open. Take a guess on which wire, the FSM diagram does not show colors. Good luck

From my notes and looking at the FSM, the door swith is sending a GROUND pulse to the actuator. So the trunk actuator is always getting 12V, and the ground pulse is completing the circuit to open the actuator.

The switch in the glove box, if I remember correctly, is a simple two-pin switch. So it's just breaking the ground pulse. The wire from the door switch to the glove box switch is purple, and the one going from the glove box switch to the actuator is purple with a yellow strip.

You're going to have to figure out how to energize the circuit going to the actuator. The fuse for that circuit appears to be the next-to-the-bottom one on the left row of fuses in the block inside the car. The wire leaving it should be Pink.

So supply 12V to that fuse, and ground the battery to the chassis. Then you should be able to use the door switch.

Of course, I don't know what part of the electrical system has been slashed so far - so you'll have to improvise from there...

Good luck!

Hey check it out, if you do end up "taking an axe to the trunk", can you make sure you video tape that and post it up here?

Kind of a "What not to do or here's what the result is" kinda thing. And for sure there's some entertainment value there.

OOH! You could charge a small fee to view the video and perhaps recoup some $$$ for the new trunk.

brymax , an injector flooded the engine during start up, the starter was strong enough to throw a rod. It wont be needing a new trunk lid because its being parted out

mxr662 - I owe you, thats all I needed. I kept trying, never heard it click but went to the back to beat the crap out of it and it was open. Im used to hearing the click sound it makes when it opens. Anyways, great help, solved the problem

For the record, I was in for a $50 spot just to see that video, damn!

Just for future reference to anyone else who's viewing this thread... this schematic does not apply to the 1990 Q. This diagram is apparently from the 94+ manual, since it mentions a LAN.

cccpman - did you have to totally destroy the trunk to get it open?

no I just randomly touched wires. It worked out great, the trunks open, and it isnt going to close until its totally gutted. goody94q45's idea was pretty close, but rather then pull the thing apart I found every lose wire I had in the engine bay, reconstructed what I could and it seems to have worked. interior lights come on, trunk switch functions, etc. It would have probably saved time and my back if I went completely with goody94q45's idea though

brymax, if I recall correctly my car is being parted out... . You dont HAVE to pay for shipping but if you dont I will destroy the part lol

Anyways just re-read the hydrostatic rod post, I totally forgot about it! ah man that sort of humor always got me, great to see how many people just fell for it even with a j/k at the end!
