Hello,

I have 93 convertible and 2 questions to all the gurus out there.

First, my trunk's lid won't stay open anymore. Obviously the hydraulic arms in the trunk are dying. (I don't know what is the official name for this part.) How much would they cost? Is it something easy to install myself?

Second question is my car is making this metal scraching/squeaky noise. It seems to come from the bottom of the car. This noise doesn't happen all the time, but it is really bad especially when I drive slowly in reverse (i.e. getting out of the parking.) Does anyone has any suggestion what this could be?

Thank you for any advices in advance!

Car: rebuild cars

The first one is called tailgate stay, you can get them at almost any automotive store- they range in weight capacity. If you are thinking of putting an after market spoiler that is a bit heavier, I would suggest paying the extra few bucks now. Second, if you have a faulty torque converter could make a loud chatter or scratchy noise. My suggestion is to take it to a local shop that does estimate for free, it could just be the exhaust system striking the underbody.

I also have a 1993 convertible. As for the trunk problem the post before is right on the money. To make it easy for you, take one side off and bring it in so you can match the size up correctly. The price is roughly 25 $ at autozone. You can shop them online or go to one of stores. I am sure you can find it cheaper but I usually go for ease over cheap. The sound your are hearing is it only when you are going slow? Is your foot on the breaks? I dont know how much you work on your own car but sometimes people dont hear their breaks until its too late. If not I am not to sure.
