Post

Hi everyone,

I recently was changing my oil and then it started to rain. I forgot I had my trunk open, until late that night. When I tried to close the trunk, it was stuck.

I then forced the trunk closed but when I tried to re-open, the springs would not keep the trunk lid up.

Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? or, am I just stuck using a 2x4 to keep my trunk open when I need to.

Thanks for any responses/help,

Geoff.

-- This happened to me a while back, I was working outdoors with some tools in the trunk. I left the lid open and a strong wind blew the trunk lid open too far and caused the spring to come off the bracket, preventing it from closing, and I had to yank the spring down to close the lid. To me, that sounds like what happened to you. Basically the springs are 2 long metal pieces that twist to achieve lift, make sure nothing is broken and figure out which one (or both) you need to twist back onto it's bracket, in my case it was the one with the bracket to the left. After trying to twist mine back many times from the outside with my hands, I think I finally got it by lying in the trunk and using a socket extender and channel locks for leverage. I do remember thinking that it took all my strength, so bring the elbow grease, hope this post helps, GOOD LUCK.

Thanks, everyone.

I did look at the springs today since it was nice out, being that is was about 40 deg. up here in the norhteat US.

I think that I did break one of the actual hinges, and I saw that the metal springs did just pop loose in the first place. I'll play with it some more another day, but if it is too time consuming, I'll just use the "ole 2x4" LOL.

Thanks everyone,

Geoff.
