True street s13 turbo 5.3 blow thru carb!

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Well ive not been on here in a while. I sold my rb setup thank goodness and I decided to buy the chevy ls 5.3, then i decided to add my 60mm precision turbo + a blow threw carb setup. Im tired of dealing with wiring and fuel injection for a while. So im trying something new.

Motor came out of a 2000 Suburban, Not sure of the mileage.
Image

I got it stripped and started the mock up on the turbo + headers
Image
Image

The headers I bought were godspeed and were for a 2000 camaro
Image

I had to modify the crossover pipe for it to clear my steering shaft.
I also had to modify the front core support, the radiator was never going to clear the turbo So i relocated the radiator and it now sets like a camaro with a slant.
Image

I got the engine bay all cleaned back up and re-painted
Image
Image

I had to notch the frame for the turbo exhaust to fit
Image

I had to notch the core support crossover for the radiator hose to clear in its new location
Image

I had to notch the crossmember for the gto oil pan to clear and set back as low and far as possible
Image

I bought these transdapt motor mounts, they weld to your frame. I had to modify them just a little and cut them a little shorter, but they worked out great.
Image

Gto oil pan fitted
Image

Bought the eldebrock victor jr carb intake
Image

Spector turbo hat
Image

Aeromotive fuel pump + frp
Image
Image

Got the oil return welded into the oilpan
Image
Image

Bought the Redneck performance 2spd powerglide with 3500 stall + transbrake
Image
Image

Got the motor in and bolted up
Image

I used the nissan alternator and made a custom bracket
Image

turbo and radiator clearance = TIGHT! but works
Image
Image

my exhaust routed
Image

wastegate installed
Image

Transmisssion crossmember built
Image

Holley 650 double pumper setup for a blow threw turbo, custom floats + metering blocks etc
Image

taylor 10.4mm race wires
Image

ls1 electric water pump
Image

I took a q45 differential and took the ring n pinion out of it 3.54 gear ratio and i put it in my stock r200 case (factory 4.08) so now i will have a final gear of 3.54, should help load my turbo more.
Image

and here is the most recent photo's got the intercooler piping welded up
Image
Image
Image
Image

I have not fired the car up yet, still gotta weld some fittings in my gas tank + run my gas lines, I still need my msd timing controller and a few other nic nacks, but it should be fired up within a month.

enjoy and to anyone who wants a build similar :naughty: hope ur good at fabricating, ive spent the last 8 months making it all fit and work.

Well i got some more wiring done. Tach is wired, line lock is wired, electric fans is wired, water pump is installed and wired, intercooler pump is wired. I got the transmission cooler in + hardlines fabbed and installed.. Radiator hoses made, new fuel rail installed + autometer fuel gauge, FPR installed and carb feed line ran.

Here is the latest engine shot
Image

I lack the fuel tank installed with #10 feed line and #8 return line, Im using the stock tank. I cut the sump and made the #10 feed + pickup tube welded in. SHould have it finished this weekend.

Then i gotta make up my fuel feed line + return line, Got a shifter to install, speed sensor block plate to install, msd to install, oil catch can, Bov, hood modification, throttle cable, ice box +hoses, transbrake to wire etc, im down to the little details, Hopefully within a few weeks I can hear it run.

I got till the end of march before my first True street race (local drag strip). So i got alot of tuning to also get in and time is running out lol.

My local 1/8th mile track has a class called true street, its a new series starting this year, its a run wat u brung on drag radials/pro tree, but it also involves a 30mile cruise before the race. It all street legal cars.

I'm looking for the 6.0 range @ 115ish is my goal. In order for me to be competitive that's wat it takes.

From wat I know of my competition,
347 stroked mustang with a gt45 turbo @ 18psi, this car is pretty nasty he is a buddy of mine.
2008 corvette with lsx motor + procharger
Nova 400sbc + procharger
And SEVERAL nitrous cars.

I got some tough competition.

Well since i had some time today for Christmas i decided to get some more work done.

Got my fuel tank ready for feed fittings, I cut the top half of the sump out and squared it up so i can get a straight Bulk #10 fitting in, Im gonna weld a Tube to a #10 nut and use it as a pickup tube inside the fuel tank.

Image
Image

I also got the return fitting in, I took the 1/2in hose going from the gas spout/vent and put a t in place, I rill run a #8 line from this spot to my regulator.

Image

I made a Bracket for my fuel pump and got it mounted and wired

Image

and i got the Transmission Crossmember finished welded up.
Image

I also got the throttle cable installed, got it off a Junk camaro we have here at the house. Worked out perfect.

I welded the rear subframe together, Spot welds just wont hold lol.

With new yrs coming up, I just may have a 12AM RUMBLE!!! HAHA

What exactly do you need a pics of? What are you looking for? I can take any that might help.

Well bad news is this junk yard motor is done before it ever got started, the push rods are ate up, which was my lifter problem, + its smoking pretty good, found oil all in the exhaust before the turbo so looks like it needs a top end rebuild, seems as tho the bottom end is ok, it has no blow bye, I brought it up on the transbrake 4psi and still no blow bye, so I think the rings are good and pistons. But I've found another motor local pretty cheap I'm going to buy, its a iron 5.3 punched to 5.7, scat rods, je pistons, comp cam etc. Might as well start out fresh.

Judas. This thing is nuts. 60mm turbo? Isn't that a bit small for any kind of revs?

The turbo should be fine for wat I'm doing. I run 1/8th mile cause there is no local 1/4. + with the smaller turbo it will have 0 lag. A cobra in the class I ran has a 289 + 60mm turbo @ 18psi went 5.99 @ 124. So we should be a close race. I got a lot more motor + less weight.

Well motor is in, finally able to move it in and out of the garage on its own lol. But over all I'm happy with the motor. I need to buy a shifter + new msd box and some plumbing for my ice box and a pvc setup. Then I will get it to the dyno for some tuning. Here's the motor in the car now.

Well the car was not 100% ready, But i was only 1 points race behind and the car was close enough i took it out to my local track last night and made a few passes with the new motor. Car ReaLLY surprised me, I de-tuned it as much as possible due to i have the wrong ign box and i cannot pull timing, I back it off to 3.5-4 psi of boost, car ran good on bottom but would lay over hard on top end. almost as if it ran out of fuel about 100-150ft from the finish line. So i just coasted it threw the lights all night. I made it to the finals. I lost, but def gave the guy a run for his money with a motor that was in LIMP mode lol but I still had a blast!

Here is a video of my 1st pass car went 7.239 @99mph with a 1.646 60ft and 4.670 300ft to the mustangs 7.923 @94mph with a 1.915 60ft and 5.242 300ft.

this pass was on foot brake

Car would run out of fuel, like it sucked the carb bowls dry. I think I know what the problem is now. I have a dual feed line to the carb with a single -6 feed off the fuel regulator. Which means its feeding the front bowl fuel 1st and wats left is going to the rear bowl. If I take and feed each bowl with a separate -6 fuel line off my regulator then each bowl will fill equally and won't run the rear bowl out of fuel like it does now.

your fpr is referencing boost I imagine, curious what your set up is, jet sizes, fuel pressure , 1:1 ratio on fpr?
Is -6 big enough for the hp that motor is putting out boosted?

when my motor was carbed
I was running the A1000 pump, -8 up to fpr, boost referenced fpr 1:1, with -8 from fpr to a dual feed on 950 that had the main body of a 650 , with 64 primary, 76 secondary, , 10.5 power valve on primary, no power valve on secondary, secondary jet extensions, base fuel psi 7, with 6 psi boost at 4500 rpm I was getting in the 11 AFR range

My setup sounds real similar, its an a1000 pump, -10 from pump to fpr -8 return, -6 feed to carb, its a 1:1 fpr aeromotive, its a 650 holley DP, bigger squirters, jet extensions etc, 72 jets front and 100 rear (just for safety at the moment) my fpr its setup for 2 -6 feed lines which should put double the volume it currently has on the single -6.

think you are right about the -6 ,
this is a link that has suggested fuel line sizes for hp with a carb
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j275/ ... MPINFO.jpg
the two individal -6 should work according to this

I am assuming you have the fpr referencing boost from the intake piping or manifold.

I am looking into a smaller turbo myself when I get my tpi setup driving( had a ebay gt45 that I got for free),
curious what king of rpms you are seeing with the 60mm turbo, considering a 67,70, or 72 for myself.
what a/r on the turbo and when are you seeing boost.

like the build by the way

Ya fpr is boost reference, and is plumbed into the turbo housing.

My turbo is a precision .68 hot side .60 cold I start seeing boost around 1800-2000 and I have full boot by 2500rpm. Considering I've only been running 3-4psi, it pulls like crazy! I can get nearly full boost on transbrake. When I add the 2step controller I should be launching under full boost.

sounds good,

I am learning about turbo's and trying to decide which turbine AR to go with,
what rpm's are you reaching?
