When the main bolts are replaced, an align bore needs to be done. I don't know about the rod bolts, but I don't think so.

I'm not sure with the CA, but I've built a few SBCs and BBC along with old chevy 6's and always replaced the main bolts but only done a line bore once and they've all been fine. Maybe Dee will have the answer...

Makes sure the crank is centered and the bearings are crushed properly.

My built CA has ARP mains and no align boring done there. Everthing went in smooth and ARP mains were the exact diameter as the main bolts. But if your crank got screwed-up and you're going to have it turned, it might be wise to get it done. But seriously, you don't need ARP main bolts because the stock mains are well and up to the task and rarely experience stretching (Save your money).

The IDEA behind line boring is that studs tighten and stress the mains and block differnetly than regular bolts do. This can POSSIBLY cause the clynder to be out round (egg shaped) when everything it torqued down.
