Okay...so I want to learn more about the engine in my new car. I'm the type of gal who reads and figures things out but haven't had a desire to learn about cars so I just have an elementary knowledge of what's under the hood. I have seen the engine forums but I don't know what type of engine I have (aside from the liters, etc). Soooo...what engine is in the stock '06 g35 coupe?

Also, is there a good "for dummies" site out there with mechanical information on automobiles? I'd like to be able to talk the talk once I get the nerve up to meet with some of the locals. I can knowledgeably discuss electronic gadgetry...computers...games...sports - but not cars.

Thanks!

Right. More specifically, it is a VQ35DE. There are 3 versions used in G35's. Not sure the specific coding, but they come in 260HP, 280 HP and 298 HP levels.

'05+ cars have the 298HP engine, with a few intake mods, you can easly pass 315HP. Just do a google search on it, and I'm sure you can find anything your looking for. If you want more in-depth knowledge on the entire car, buy a service manual (I got mine off e-bay for $15).

the 05+ 298 hp engine with an intake, good exhaust headers and a full exhaust from stillen is estimated to give you and extra 30+ hp. to further break down your engine it is a VQ35DE -- 35 = 3.5 Liters D-dual over head camshafts. its real basic but just thought id put it out there. nice pick though, i pick mine up this october!

Thanks all for the info - I'm sitting at 280 HP stock however since I have the automatic (10 yrs with a clutch and my achilles hates me).

Thanks for the tip on the service manual, that's a good idea - summer reading project!

Amazingly this site is still there... with free service manuals. Get 'em before Infiniti finds the site and shuts it down!
