This is being discussed in "bluetooth/battery" topic but I want more exposure for more replies.

If battery is disconnected does the i-key have to be reprogrammed by the dealer?

You know what my take is on this. So call up to the service department at the dealer and ask them?

Actually, something just came to mind after I posted in the other thread.

Coxcj, the guy who wrote up the iPod integration article, has iKey and satellite on his V. He disconnected his battery for the installation, and his car worked fine after.

So my vote is for "no, not even a little."

My guess is no. The dealer had to replace a defective battery in my V last week and the I-keys worked just fine afterwards, even though one of them was at home 20 miles away.

You don't have to have the iKey reprogrammed. The key itself has a chip in it that is programmed to the BCM, and the only way it'd have an issue is if your BCM craps out.

OK so lets talk about the BCM and what would make it crap out?

Name it LOL. There are many things, from adding aftermarket remote starts/alarms to it getting too much voltage...

The BCM is a computer that controls many miscellaneous electric systems in the car. Chances are, if it's not directly related to the engine, transmission, or emissions, it's processed by this module. Examples include the TPMS system, power windows and locks, etc..

The BCM can be damaged by anything that would damage a computer (static, impact, water, improper modification), but also some early BCM's on V's built before December 2006 will crap out on their own, just because. The problems have been fixed, and newer models (and newer BCMs) should be just fine.

...And I have had one of those, when the TPMS keeps lighting up even though there's enough pressure in the tires. There's a TSB out for it, it shows open circuits to the monitor of a certain wheel, the TPMS and the BCM need to be replaced and reprogrammed.
