The check engine light came on, I had the code checked and it can back as P0446: The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the vent control in the evaporative emission control system. Just what does that mean in laymen terms.

It means you have a open or short in the vent cntrol valve that is allowing fuel vapor to be let into the air and not allowing the fuel system to pressurize for emission check. This would be a job for the dealer or a good shop.

did you get the code fixed. I have the same code. If you fixed it yourself let me know how. I refuse to go to a mechanic. I also had code p0443, purge valve. I learned and fixed that myself, but I can't get rid of this last code p0446. email me [email protected]

Jude240,To fix the P0443, I just bought a new purge cut valve from nissan. Part# 14931-72F01, loc: B39 380 104. It was $84 with tax (might have to order it). It is very easy to replace. Just unclamp the three hoses coming off of the purge valve and put the new one on. Took 5 min.P04460, is the vent control valve or called drain cut valve. Part# 14935-54U06. It's in the rear, under the car, near the fuel tank/line on the passenger side. It is connected to the black canister and has two 10mm bolts holding it on, one electrical connect, and 2 or 3 hoses. Take that off and replace it. It's $72 at nissan (should be in stock). Don't forget to reset your codes, so that your light will go off. My problem is that the 10mm bolts appear to be stripped, so now I gotta spend $141 on a new black canister. Let me know how yours turns out. Or any other problems. I have a 96 240, you? Asia.

very common. i prob do one vent control valve every month and half of them need a canister too because the bolts rust.

Before you pick one up at your local dealer, and if you can afford to wait a few days, get a quote from one of our sponsors, like http://www.everythingnissan.com. Call them if it's not listed. 1-888-216-5328I have yet to hear of a local dealership that can come close to their prices.

Edit: $53.74 from their site for the purge control valve, plus a bit for shipping (no tax outside AZ).http://www.trademotion.com/par...240sx
