My transmission died going 50 MPH and then wouldn't go into any gears. I am thinking it is the torque converter.I opened the transmission all the oil was red and no shavings except in the band servo piston it was gray and glumpy. I don't see any wear or anything abnormal. Could that be liquid from something else failing?Tell me to stop but my idea is if the mechanical are good in the transmission I test the solenoids and have the torque converter rebuilt. I would then clean the transmission with diesel I should have a solid transmission.

I'm on transmission number 3 in my 1990 Q and they are very similar just that your RE4R01A is weaker and rated for less torque.

7-10 years is a long life for a Nissan RWD unit depending on mileage.
