Hi Guys,

I've ran into a bit of a snag, and I'm hoping that someone could point me in the right direction. I am currently rebuilding a set of Work VS-XX's that really could use a new silicon seal. Unfortunately I have run into a problem sourcing the proper nut for the rebuild (M7-1.0mm pitch Serrated Flange lock nut as seen below).

I have looked all over my town, as well as on the intarweb for the last few hours. I can find M6-1 and M8-1, but no M7-1. If anyone has any suggestion about where to look I would appreciate it.

BTW Work Sells the nut and Bolt together for $4.00 a piece. 36 bolts per wheel X 4 wheels = cost of new wheel, I'm not cheap just thrifty

Nothing wrong with reusing the original nuts and bolts... if they're grungy, have them stripped/etched and replated... you can even get creative and just no electroless nickel, black oxide, or gold cad plating, etc...

Why do you care about the pitch? Just get something with similar fine pitch and similar length and same diameter and you will be good to go.

Here you go, in case you still need it. Not exactly what you've got, but as close as I could find. If you've got a Tennessee Farm Bureau membership, you can buy from Grainger at a discount, too.

If that link doesn't work, it's Grainger Item # 1RLP2 at http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml

I really appreciate it! I have to admit I'm a little hinky about using the nylon insert locknuts on my wheels (the originals have the serrated flange). But I figure the nylon with some Locktite Blue Should do the trick.

I have been searching almost every day since I posted this and this is the closest I've seen!

I am planing on doing a write up on how to rebuild these wheels (but only after I've done it and mounted a tire to make sure I've got it right).

Anyway Thanks a Ton!

You're quite welcome. For what it's worth, I also checked McMaster-Carr, Fastenal, and Royal Brass, but none of them had it. I was a bit surprised McMaster didn't have it.

I think if you get the torque right then Locktite on a Nylock shouldn't come loose.

One other thing. I don't know if you've got a business or not, but Grainger can be a bit cranky about selling stuff. If you don't have a business and don't know someone that's with Tennessee Farm Bureau, let me know and I'll see what I can do about procuring them for you.

Yeah I couldn't believe that McMaster didn't have them either (Thats where I'm getting the Gasket maker from to re-seal them!).

I placed my order this morning onlin with Grainger with no problem at all. Shipping was a little steep, but it beats the crap out of ordering them from Work.

Good to hear you didn't have a problem ordering them. I didn't have a problem when I got some heli-coils from them, but I've heard of quite a few folks who weren't as lucky.

Not sure how much shipping was, but I'd lay odds they are probably cheaper than Home-Depot or Lowes, had you been able to buy them there.

I'll be interested to see how these turn out.
