As you can see, the inner sleeve of the old subframe bushing is stuck to the stud. It seems to be really corroded on there...any suggestions on how to get it off? I tried to dremel a slot in the sleeve to pry it off, but ran out of cutoff wheels.

Do you have an airhammer? I'd spray that bad boy down with some rust penetrant and get me a chisel chucked up and go to town on that bushing.... It's time to get down

It looks like you might even be able to get in there with a pickle fork....

Spray the **** outta it with rust pen. and let it soak before you do anything.

Hm...I don't have an airhammer...I'm doing this out of my dorm parking lot. I have tons of hand tools, but no power/air tools. I blasted it with PB blaster but that didn't seem to help. What is a pickle fork? THe main problem is that bushing is flush with the frame. If it were down a little, I could pry it out with a pry bar. THere's NO room to get one in there though. This makes me sad ANyone in atlanta wanna come hlpe me out? I'd even pay someone a little if they coudl get those damn sleeves off for me.

Keep soaking it down. You might get yourself a long 1/2" drive socket and put it over the stud there and smack the bushing a few times. Try and get flush on the inner sleeve and that might help free things up. Maybe you can get some large vice grips on it and turn it?

You could also try heating it up with a propane torch, but watch yourself and have something close to put out a fire if it gets too bad. I didn't tell ya to do this either

yeah, the clsoe proximity of the gas tank scares me...that and the rubber on the sleeve...i have a feeling it'll light on fire and cause problems. I tried a vice grip clamped on there TIGHT, and when i turned it it just scored the bushing. That pic actually isn't mine, but its the exact same deal for me. I'll spray it down with PB again and maybe smack it with a socket later. Stupid rust! AHHHH!!!!

hmmmmmmm, spray pb blaster on there like every hour for a few hours, then try again. and if you do decide to use fire, try to get a heat shield or somthing to put behind it.

try taking the rubber section off first. If it doesn't wanna come off regularly, take a torch to it. If you've no fuel leaks you'll be fine. When you're down to the metal section, give it a good hosing with penetrating lube and try going at it with vise grips to just try to wiggle it side to side. Another thing you can try to do is take a pry bar to where the metal section just meets the subframe and pry at it from there.

Actually, I already got the rubber off and tried a visegrip, that thing is stuck on solidly though. The picture is one i found on FA, but its pretty much exactly the same as mine. I really want to pry bar it but there is no gap whatsoever between the metal sleeve adn the subframe. NO wonder my bushings felt like crap...the rubber was totally disconnected from the inner sleeves, and they were seized ontot hte posts.

if you were anywere close to me i could come and help.

i would use a propane tourch on it, and have a fire extinguisher as well as a bottle of water near by

if it catches fire, it will burn a little and you can put it out with the water and not make a mess, but if it gets bad, you will wana be able to put it out before it consumes the car

Good lord, the gas tank will not catch on fire as long as you don't have a fuel leak, and liquid gasoline does not explode. The rubber may catch on fire, but you've already taken care of getting rid of that. The only problem is that PB Blaster is definatly flamable. So let it dry up before you torch it.

I think I'll try a few rounds of PB followed by pounding with a socket and hammer, and then try to heat it with the torch if that doesnt do it. Thanks guys, I appreciate all this.

iI tried to heat the posts up w/ my propane torch, then beat at them with a mallet, socket, pry bar, etc. Didn't budge I sprayed it down with PB blaster and left it like that. I cut through one of the sleeves the other day with a dremel, i think that might be the way to go. I just need more cutting wheels. Should I just keep smacking/heating/PB blastering it?

Got some more cutting wheels and lengthened the slot, but it still won't come off I think I'm gonna cut a second slot on it? THis is so stupid, my car has been out of commission for a week because of this small rusted post. Anyone in atlanta want to give me a hand?
