I have an 08 Altima Coupe Automatic Transmission and I have not had any modifications done to any part of the car. Sometimes when I drive my car starting from a stopped position the RPM goes up to 4 or 5 and stays there, even after i release the accelerator, the RPM wont go down. I have to shift my gear to neutral and then it will go down to normal.

Does this happen frequenly with anyone else?

Its actually normal operation for the CVT transmission - basically you have to "ride" it out almost...the RPM's will drop down eventually. It's kinda due to the "rubber band" effect, where in fact, your car is not revving that high, but the system thinks it is.

Don't shift into neutral - that's not good for the transmission. Just give the system a couple seconds to get back down.

had the opposite problem actually. Once in a while I will be driving and press on the accelerator and the rpms will stay at around 3500 and the car barely goes but then i'll drive for a min or 2 and it goes away...what might this be from? Anyone?

Yeah i've had the same problem. What i do is i put it in manual mode, then shift to 6th so the rpm's come down, then i put it back in D and everything is good.

I've never had this problem with my car. Though I'm in a 2.5 and I don't know if that makes a difference. I'll press down on the gas and my rpms jump up, then as soon as I let off, the rpms drop.

I've had the same issue specially after wheel spin and the RPM jump up quickly. If that is normal for a CVT transmission the should have put a little more R&D before they released it.
