Trouble with rack install 98 Altima

I bought a rebuilt rack and pinion put it in and when i center the steeringwheel the left tie rod only goes in to the joint about 1/2 inch .The rightgoes in 1 1/4 .This is the only way i can get the same amount of turn from center to right stop and left stop .About 1 3/8 turn each way.I truedthe front wheels with a string from the rear tires.I know i will need an alignment after this.I also took measurements from the rotors to thesway bar mounts before taking it apart.
