i just bought my 240sx and the air box had been altered. when i rev the engine. it didnt want to fully stay @ one rpm even if i didnt move the gas pedal.i think it might of been the cold but i let the car warm up for 5 - 10mins. after that i just slowly rev'd. to 5000 rpm. the car seemed to struggle and maintain the rpm for 10secs.... at times would even dive down 2000 rpm...i was wondering if i should go buy o finda stock air box and setup from a dealer or go to a junk yard and do the same...or just go with an aem cold air intake...any advice would really help. thanks

how has the air box been alterd? try checking your MAF and maybe see if your TB is sticking.also search and see what you can come up with.

5k and 2k? if the rpm is that high, did you check for kinks or anything like that in the throttle cable?

no....but the previous owner cut out the lower front side ( end pointing towards the front of the car) out so that it sucks more air in...i dont kno bout anything else.but i was just warming up my car and pulling it out....and it would continuly die on me...not shutting off but really dieing....so i rev'd it and it wouldnt want to live....

Why don't you first do a general tune-up.

you can search for "tune up" and see what's involved with that. it's fairly easy to do and will be much cheaper to do on your own versus having a dealer mechanic do the work for you.
