In the morning or whenever my engine is cold after i start it itll be fine and then as soon as i put it in drive unless im pushing the gas the rpms will drop to around 500 and the engine will shudder and it will do that until the car warms up. I already plan on cleaning my IACV on Wed but im not sure if thats it. If any one can give me suggestions on what it might be that would be great.

Oh its a 95 Maxima GLE w/ 188xxxAlso i just got my MAFS replaced Friday

I'm actaully having a similar problem. I was told to change out my sprakplugs. I'm doing that tomorrow. If it fixes I'll let you know. If not, I was also told that it could be the fuel pump, fuel filter, or even the TPS.

I have issues with my idle too.

Just recently I adjusted the tension on the throttle cable because it was pretty loose and since then, my car will start from cold at around 1400 RMPs for the first couple of minutes, then when it warms up, it will sit around 500-600.

I cleaned my IACV, the vacuum tubes are all new. I'm wondering if it's just the engine wear showing itself.

*Edit* Could it be the oil? I just remembered putting 10w30 Mobile 1 in. Maybe a 5w30 would have been a better choice as it is getting cold here in SoCal.

White is water vapor, black is fuel, and blue is oil. White is normal on cold days until completely heated up.

If the temperatures around you get down to freezing, I would have put 5w30 in. Does it seem like your battery might be a problem during initial startup? Using a small or old battery may not have the adequate cold cranking amps in it that you need. Meh, that could just be for start-up or until it gets a little warm though...

I've read poor oils can take up to 4 minutes to warm up and reach all of the valve-train in cold temperatures. The typical good (or synthetic) oil may be closer to 15-30 seconds.

what can i do to prevent this?

my '97 i30 has been having trouble starting when it is cold. (not necessarily cold weather) the car will turn over just fine and rev up to the normal ~1200rpm but then it immediately dies. sometimes this happens multiple times in a row. what could be causing that and how can i fix it?

[before this started the car would take up to 3-5 seconds to turn over and the starter would just be workin its butt off... would that have anything to do with it?]

So you smell raw gas

Check the fuel filter and the lines going to and from it

Make sure your gas cap seals good. Maybe get a new one.

Check your hoses to and from the evap system

I would say you should check your fuel pump.

On my car when it's low on fuel or cold, it can crank a couple of times, if I turn it on, but don't start it for 5 seconds, then start it, that problem lessens, which leads me to believe that the fuel pump is weak.

no... i dont smell raw gas.the fact that it takes a couple seconds to start doesnt really bother me.the start and die repeatedly is the problem.
