Trouble starting/idling

ok im having problems with my carCar: 1990 240sx (ka24e)Problem: Car starts, idles to about 2500rpm for 30sec-1min then shuts off.

I originally thought it was something electrical since on my way home i kept losing power (not sputtering like fuel issue) and caught off about 5-10 times and was hard to start. Once i got it home i let it sit (to dark outside). Went out this morning started up alright and caught off about 5 times trying to get in my garage (up my driveway). I have my battery in the trunk so i checked all connections (brand new positive and negative connections). Battery reads 12-12.5v when cars off and 13-14v when the cars running. So now i have the above idling problem.

Recently changed: positive and negative terminal connections and fuel filter (about 2months ago)

any ideas where to check next????

hummm......retest that battery again and look in the fsm if im correct on this..not shure...but when the car is running..you should get 14.1 to 14.7 volts at the battery...no less!...now if you get less voltage..it could be a few things...battery..altinator..or a grounding issue...all of the above issues would make your cars driveability erratic...good luck..and keep us posted with what ya find..so we can help you further.

ill try that but i think if i could get the car running long enough the battery would reach that voltage....the voltage gets better as i run the car

ok i got it to rev to 5k (a lot of smoke) and held it there but when i got off it dropped to 1k then cut off. Now i cant even get it to idle at all.

hell yes! im not alone in this boat, my kae does the same thing. cranks over and over and over.. it starts about the 3rd try, hits 2500 rpm. and dies. fuel pump is new, and turns on. just got the battery checked from advanced and recharged, and i got the starter relay checked (near the battery. blue one) all came out good. im still getting the same problem. not thread jackin or what not. but someone help!. im sure this is a moderate common problem. its not the starter cause the car starts, getting fuel and spark cause it starts. the only thing i can think of is bad ground. idk. good luck man, & if you get the problem fixed be sure to holler.
