Trouble starting car. Wondering if anyone knows what it is?

The first thing that happened was every so often my car would only click when i turned the key. Then recently a few times my starter would grind on the flywheel when it turned over. The last time when it wouldnt start the gears were just spinning and i dont think the coil on the starter was even shooting out to grab the flywheel. My starter tested good and so did my battery. I tried using a different battery and jumping it and i charged my battery too. After all that now when i turn the key my starter engages but only turns the flywheel for less than a second then everything just stops. If i watch the belts they move mabey an inch. If anyone has any ideas on what the problem might be let me know thanks.

i figured out the problem. if ur friend hasnt had any luck yet tell him to take apart his starter and see if its oiled or not. mine was really dry and that was the problem.
