i have an NA with a z1 shortshifter on a manual transmission, brand new about 2 years ago from a dealership, i put in redline transmission fluid from day 1, was running pretty damn smooth until recently. i have a hard time getting in and sometimes staying in gear. the problem mostly presents itself when shifting from 1, 3, or 5 into 2 or 4 or from 2 or 4th to 3rd or 5th (basically any shift from a gear you push foward into to one you pull back into or vice versa). I did have an old shifter support bracket i replaced recently after this started presenting itself (the rubber had torn, but i was able to get a temporary fix on it until i replaced it).

i can't tell if the problem is with the transmission or the shifter or something else, but what happens is it doesn't feel like the shift knob goes all the way into the gear - it's as if i should push a full inch, and it only goes 3/4 of an inch, so the teeth are juuuuust meshing and i can use that gear or it starts to grind horribly and i try again. sometimes when i get it into gear and give it some gas, then stop giving it gas, it will pop out of gear. so i'm not really sure what could possibly be causing this. i try to avoid rev matching and such, and on such a young transmission, it's hard to imagine anything being wrong with it, but who knows. i know the transmission itself gets pretty darn warm after a bit of driving (either from close proximity to the cats or maybe just friction or both), not sure if this contributed to this problem. anyway, let me know you guys think. cheers!

Have you done a clutch pedal adjustment?

Also do a check up on the hydraulic components of the clutch system. Master and slave cylinders, all the lines. Check for leaks and fluid level.

Also what type of redline fluid? You should be running MT-90 and not MTL.

it was a while back when i put in transmission oil so i'm not 100% sure what i used, but i'm approximately 98% sure i used mt-90.

i will absolutely perform the adjustment and let you know how that turns out. thanks for the advice!
