Ok, just recently had to replace head gasket. As far as I know I put the cams back in correctly. I lined up the dots on the cams with the marks on the chain. Engine will turn over but not start. Getting DTC 0101, camshaft position sensor/circuit. Replaced the camshaft sensor/distributor unit as a whole. Still won;t start and still getting DTC 0101. Checked to make sure that I am getting 12 volts at the orange wire on the connector. Which I am. I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try testing it at the ECU. The problem may be in the wiring from the sensor to the ECU.

Know where I can get a pin diagram for the ECU?

I know I am getting fuel to the fuel rail. I pulled the fuel line off and there was plenty of pressure when I tested it. Have not checked for spark yet, my buddy still has my remote starter button.

If you are recieveing that code it mean the ECM is not seeing the signal from the distributor. This signal tells the ECM where the engine is in its rotation so it can fire the coil and the injectors. If this signal doesnt go to the ECM it has no idea where TDC is and wont fire. I was going for the distributor having oil in it till you said you put a new one in. At this point for me knowing the distributor in it is brand knew and wouldnt have oil in it I would have to break out the DSO(digital storage ocilliscope) to montiter the 360 and 120 signals from the distributor.

According to the schematic in the Haynes manual, there is a relay that the wires go through before going to the ECU. Could the relay have gone bad? Or since I am getting a 12 volt signal at the connector, the relay is good. I do not have a DSO, but in the meantime, I will hunt down a pin diagram for the ECU and check the polarity for all of the wires for the Cam Postion Sensor/Circuit. Thanks for the help, and I will keep yall posted.

Well checked continuity for all of the 4 wires going to ECU. All good. Pulled distributor off, turend key on, and probed blue wire while turning cam sensor shaft. Geting the 5 volt spikes for every degree. Same result for yellow wire; 5 volts for every 180 degree. So far that is all of the tests that the book describes for testing the cam postition sensor. Still not starting, and the computer is not sending out the pulse for the injectors, nor spark. Still getting 0101 code. (Cam Postiton Sensor). Pretty stumped. Should I replace the cam sensor again just for kicks? It is under warranty. Is it possilbe that the ECU has somehow gone bad since the I put new timing chain in?Mucho help needed, and thanks again for the advice so far!!:ylsuper

do the same test your just did on the distributor except do the tests at the ecm connector for those wires. If those signals are getting that far it should not be throwing that code.

check for spark while cranking and when you have the dist out see if they spark when your rotating it by hand.

Also get a noid light and see if the injectors are pulsing.

Found trouble. Exhasut camshaft broke in two. KA24DE is not an inteference engine is it? I am sure that I would have heard the valves hitting the pistons if they were.

all nissan engines are interference engines except in the 93 to 02 quest's

Well I hope that the vavles did not get all beat up. Did not sound like they were though. I guess I will find out when the new cam gets in.Here is a pic of the broken one.
