But anyways as soon as I left the trip was reset and it was at 1000 miles, now this happened before also another 1000 miles ago. Its like it keeps reseting ever 1000 mile this isnt normal is it?

And also I think that the odometer is going to fast as well. by that I mean it reports that I went 40 miles when I might have only went 30 or so maybe I am paranoid.

It goes to 999 then resets back to 0

yeah ive always had it go from 999 to 0.

where else could it go considering it was designed to only read to 999.9 ? Nissan really should have designed it to read til 9999.9 so we could have reset it at each oil change and used it to count miles til next oil change, etc

Geez, even my 1986 300zturbo had twin resettable meters that read to 9999.9- really came in handy.
