WELL! Just got back from a 1600 mile 30 hour non-stop trip from Phoenix AZ to Sacramento CA where me and my two good friends picked up 2 very very nice looking ca18det clips from Venus Auto! So, after all this time, I'm not just all talk. I own a ca18!! :D

It was such an awesome trip. On our way out of Phoenix it was raining very hard and we could hardly see 10 feet in front of us. It's pretty amazing how little there is between LA and Sacramento. There's some hills and then it's all straight. Anyway, we got to Venus and talked to all the guys there. Then Vickie showed up with a lot of her friends (which were pretty cute ;)), and my friend ended up getting a rear bumper for his Chaser (Cressida) for free, and I got a 1JZ FMIC for $50. It's pretty funny, there were so many tire marks in the shape of circles close to the Venus office...we knew it was them :ylsuper The main guy in charge was pretty cool too. He was telling us about how the whole operation works and why some things are the way they are and how they mostly deal with selling engines wholesale to pretty much everyone...

The drive back was pretty cool too. I guess hauling 3,000lbs of pure Nissan turbo power must be pretty hard cuz the Jeep's differential started chattering badly and we had to stop and put diff fluid in the middle of nowhere. Other than that it was pretty uneventful and I now have a newfound respect for towing with a short wheelbase vehicle.

Well, I'm gonna plan on starting my swap 1st week of September to have as much money and as possible to make sure I don't run out half way through. It should probably stop being 110 degrees by then too. I wish I could do my swap in California...

Pictures coming soon

sounds a bit familiar to the trip we took to get my motor. We woke up at like 8 in the morning, picked up a trailer from my friends house put it on the back of his chrokee all the while we're doing it in a tsunami. We get on the road driving 4 hours in horrible weather conditions.....then we get to JGY customs and its all nice and sunny, we load her up and start our journey back and half way home through the mountains it starts hailing like a mother ****er, my motors gettin hit horribly with baseball size hail....... oh well i didnt care about any of it, as long as i had my motor finally after a month and a half of trying to figure out a way to pick it up.

Awesome man! me and my friend need a pair of CA clips, maybe we'll have to make that 860 mile trip down from Utah.

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for the clip, was there taxes? And if you really wanna help me out and show off that motor at the same time, could you put up some pics?

My friend has a business account with them, so we got them at $1200. No taxes. Yeah, we rented a trailer from a U-Haul-like place. With the clips in the trailer, sometimes it felt more like the clips were towing the Jeep! Oh, that and it stank like differential fluid everytime we climbed or turned. It was quite excellent.

Cool...let's see pics.

hmmm, I guess Venus doesn't play games with you when you can talk to them in person. Still no starter/transmission plate from them for my motor

nice looking clips, aside from the dented oil pans. Venus is bad about that.

I started out talking to Vickie, but found she really doesn't know what she's talking about most of the time. She's just good at making it seem like she does. Ronald is the only person worth talking to, and he's not much better. Sorry, I'm just a *little* bitter about my transaction with Venus.

that's nice, but man, I hoped the ca's to be much cheaper. I'd expect them to lower with the sr hype, but for 1200, wouldn't the rb20 be a better deal? Or am I missing anything?

It's pretty much accepted that an rb20 is a pile of dung

Not in my book! I mean, sure I've heard some things about the rb20, but nothing related to engineering or manufacturing flaws. The only things I hear is the lack of 3rd party support here in the states, but that's the same with the rb25, and that doesn't make it a pile of dung.

i find it hard to justify putting all that weight up there (with an rb20) for the limited performance upgrade you get...Why not just get a CA if you only want 215 hp? if you're gonna do an rb at least do an rb25...

I agree. I've heard many reports of healthy RB20s just blowing up when you run them hard at the track for no particular reason...

Only reason I would get an RB20 over an RB25 is because it revs higher...

cuz if you want an engine that doesn't rev, just keep your KA.!!!!!!!!!! The bigger question is how is grammar got to do with anything ;) j/k br0

Anyway, we start the first swap today in nice hot and humid weather. Will take lots of pics :D

good call alfred, if you want a low revving stroke motor then the KA is for you. But i dont really like my ka, its had a long life. like 5 minutes ago, I did however smoke some retard in an Altima, a KA24DE Altima, this joker lurches out into the intersection at the LEFT TURN arrow..slams brakes..freaks out the guys turning left and looks like a tard. He's still getting ready to race at the green so im like "its on!" and launch from almost 3k rpms. He was humiliated, my stock sohc owned him so bad, but he clearly didnt know how to drive.
