Just returned from my first trip to Japan. What a fascinating country from a car perspective. I saw a lot of Nissan Presidents. There seems to be a short well base version equivalent to our 94-96 Q45's but with more decorative chrome and wood (very nice looking). Then there is a long wheel base version of the president with the additonal name of Sovereign on the trunk.

I also saw many derivatives of the 97 on Q45 which I can't remember all the names.

The M45 is used as a taxi and I actually got to ride in one. It was called the Nissan Cedric but was all kitted out with wood and leather etc but painred white with a blue strip down the side for taxi use!

In the Toyota / Lexus brands I was completely confused. There are many derivatives of the LS400 /430 but with Toyota Celsior badges. They seem to be well finished inside but then they also have the Lexus version as well. This extends to the full range of Toyotas.

I wish I had had some real down time to study and document all the models

Maybe next time

The Japanese never envisioned poor college kids or working class Americans would be driving these types of cars.In Japan these are purchased by corporations to save a few bucks over MB, or used by the Government just as ours buys Lincoln/Caddy mini limos for lots of officals.......with a driver.

I went to Japan 3 years ago. Great place and the people were very nice. I didn't see any Q's or Presidents over there. There were a lot of the smaller cars. One think that was cool with the taxis, they had hubcaps that advertisement on them and they wouldn't spin with the wheel so you can always see it. If anyone ever goes to Japan, Take a ride on the bullet train, or the Shinkansen, as they call it. I took a ride from Tokyo to Osaka. That train is faster that any Q here.
