Took a trip from Missouri to SW Florida in our 08 CVT. 1350 miles. My opinion:

Nissan Versa with the CVT is a remarkable piece of engineering.

Set the cruise at about 74. RPM's stayed at about 2200. Occasionally on hills, RPM's went up around 3000. Smooth, gradual and effortless with the 1.8.

Averaged about 33 to 34 mpg.

Very comfortable and roomy. Even hauling 2 sets of golf clubs and luggage.

I am very happy with our V. Got it in Feb. to drive and have put 25k on it already without any problems whatsoever.

Another trip report....Drove from Bowling Green, Kentucky to the port of Miami, Florida and back. The trip was right at 1,950 miles round trip. I set the cruise at 73 MPH and left it. The trip consisted basically of interstates and the Florida turnpike. My RPMs stayed around 2,500 instead of your 2200. I wonder why there is a difference? My average MPG was right at 31.5 MPG. My low was 29.85 which included the driving into Miami and getting back out. My high was 31.85 which was the stretch between Atlanta Ga and about 100 miles south of Gainesville. Even though I wish the MPGs were higher, my wife and I really enjoyed the trip. I tried out the passenger seat all the way forward and removing the head rest bed exercise. I slept like a baby for 2 hours! I could not believe it. The seat was perfectly aligned with the rear seat cushions. I'm just a little shy of being 6 feet tall and was completely stretched out! The cruise control with the CVT transmission was dead on. The car would only slow down by about 1/2 of a MPH before it corrected itself. I may never own a non-CVT car again. It's so smooth and you can tell it's not as hard on the engine, engine mounts, and driveline as a whole since there are no sudden loading and unloading of the drivetrain that is experienced each time the clutch is pressed in or the shift shock that accompanies a normal automatic transmission.

Before we departed on the trip, I wondered how it would go...how tried would we get from the long trip in the Versa and so forth. Overall, a great trip delivered from a great, not so little car.

There was definitely something wrong with mine, then.

On the last road trip (185 miles per way from Omaha to Kansas City), we locked the cruise in at the 70 MPH speed limit. Level surface RPM was about 2300-2400. If there was an incline, the RPM screamed to almost 4000.

Normally 26.5 in the city, but 26.26 on that particular interstate trip. Yep, less. We never saw above 28 MPG on any highway/interstate trip ever.

It would also depend on how loaded the car is in weight.
