Took mine from here to Florida and back in March. Car ran well except for those pesky crosswinds. I cruise controlled almost the entire trip and the SL seats were the second most comfortable long distance seats I've sat in for that kind of a trip.

You should enjoy the drive if you ignore the gas prices.

Understand. Really not a car issue, but a body issue. Long way to sit behind a wheel!

I carry one of those rechargeable jump starter/air compressor combination units whenever I take a long drive like that. The peace of mind alone makes it worth the price. It sure beats being stranded in the middle of nowhere waiting for roadside help.

Important tips: Stop often at rest areas, truck stops, whatever. Get out of the car and walk around, even if it's only for 5 minutes. The change of position and movement will help prevent blood clots from forming due to sitting in one position for too long. That can be a very serious problem if you happen to be susceptible to it. I've seen it on airplane trips and it is not pretty. Drinking plenty of fluid will help, too.

Drinking plenty of fluid will also ensure that you stop often

I hope by "a couple" you mean ten or so. You should be stoping no less often than every 300 miles, if for nothing more than a stretch and bathroom break. And never drive when fatigued. If you're all too tired to drive, pull over to a rest area and sleep... or spring for a night at a motel.

Also, and I personally experienced this one on a grueling forced-drive back home, keep some snacks and stuff handy in the car. There's nothing worse than being in the middle of nowhere and having nothing to eat, yet being hungry. not just a little hungry, but "could eat a horse" kind of hungry.

Plan on stopping for snacks and gas every 300 miles or so. Always got snacks and food in the car, even if im not in the car. Plan to stop in couple of motels.

One other question, how safe is it to travel through coast to coast, like the motels and such, and the roads.
