Trip Meter Fading Out

The trip meter/warning message unit on my dash has developed the problem that it has normal intensity on the left hand side of the display, but the right hand side has faded to a much dimmer intensity. This started awhile ago as an intermittent, but now it does not seem to be returning to full intensity all across the display.

Anyone know what's up. Is the unit dying, or is this something that can be repaired, short of replacing the unit?

Mine does it too. Usually the left side fades out. But it's sporadic at best.

I brought up the issue before and someone said there are two bulbs that need to be replaced?? That didn't make sense to me since it's a digital display..... but I guess it's old fashioned!!

If you're going to bother fixing, might as well replace every bulb in that area of the dash. Not a job for everyone. The few times I've been under the dash I was overwhelmed by how secure everything is. Truly built like a tank.

It's a backlit LCD display. The two bulbs will fix your problem.

So I need to pull the dash completely apart and replace these two bulbs - dealer OEM, I presume.

Yep,

The dealers tend to have trouble finding the bulbs in their technical drawings. Here's the part number, you'll need two.

24860-60U00 $5.59 each (list)

Thanks for the part number. Is there any (relatively) easy way to get to the unit short of taking apart the whole dash?

No real shortcuts here... you have to remove the trim around the shifter, the ash trey/radio/climate control trim, the steering column cover, and the trim around the instrument cluster. Be careful removing the instrument cluster surround - it's easy to rip and scar it on the lock release mechanism on the ignition switch. Then you remove the four screws holding the cluster in and you're there. Make sure the bulbs lock in good when you put them in... had one fall out about three months after I replaced it the first time...

If you need more detailed dash removal instructions and you don't have a manual, let me know and I'll try to type in something...

Thanks. That's pretty much what I thought would need to be done. I've been in the dash to remove the audio head unit, but not as far as the dash units. I've got the manual, so I'll be able to follow how to get there.

I need to replace the bulbs in the trip odometer and have read the posts. I'm am newbie at this and need a little help top avoid damaging the trims. How do I remove the shifter trim, the radio trim, and finally the instrument cluster trim. I don't see any bolts or screws to be removed. Any help would be appreciated.

Search the posts for intrument pod ror cahs gauge removal. It has been posted at least twice, once recently. Email me if you can't find it.

Mine was half faded but I was living with it, now it's completely out. Are those bulbs still available? A search of that part number at EverytingInfiniti.com bore no results. Can I get them at the parts store or possibly radio shack?

ThanksGrant

I would call them at 1-888-216-5328. Joe should be able to look them up for you... I never had any luck sourcing these locally.

Funny thing happened today, it came back on! It was out for 2 days - now its fine. Anybody ever get this? Thinks its a loose bulb? wiring problem?

Thanks,Grant
