I'm sure most people here have 6 speed manual transmission however i live in So cal and traffic sucks...

It seems the main difference between the S and the SL on the versa is Automatic vs the CVT

looking at the prices i can get an S w/Automaticpower packageABSCruise$14,100

or

SLw/CVTConv pkgABS$16,100

all before TTL

So is the CVT worth the extra $2,000? and have people gotten better deals?

I wouldn't say that the CVT alone is worth an extra $2K, but I do feel that the SL is worth the extra money. We like the rims instead of hubcaps, the upgraded seat material is nice, my wife loves the Blue-tooth, and a few other minor details (like leather on the steering wheel) all add up to a nicer experience. I'm glad we spent a little more and got the SL. Oh, and we do like the CVT a lot.

* edit...almost forgot the armrest in the SL. We LOVE that.

I went into the dealer wanting the cheapest they had, but they only had an SL/CVT available for a test drive. (Two years ago this week.) I was impressed, but waited until they had an S that I could try. I hadn't even sat down and I could see that there were so many differences - it just looked cheaper than the SL. Well, it was, of course, but I'm so glad I got the SL/CVT. My daughter even got one when she graduated from college. And we both love how smooth and quiet they are.

As for the price, you quoted better than I got, but they weren't giving any breaks back at the beginning!

My favorite part is the iKey. Once you get use to it it's hard to go back. My fiance has a '07 Mazda 3 and everytime I drive it I always forget to get my keys out and it now seems like such a pain. lol

Most here probably have AT/CVT, but a large majority of S owners end up wanting most of the SL options, so I'd say aim high so you are not disappointed or end up spending the same for a S model with upgrades as you do on just the SL from the factory.

Is it really worth the extra cash for the SL? I got my 08 S with ABS, keyless, cruise and power package for $11500 out the door. It also depends If this is going to be your primary vehicle. If it is, then the SL may well be worth it but then again, its still a Versa and how much $$ separates the SL from the higher level Sentra? Besides, everyone knows the S is much quicker.

The quality of seat fabric and upholstery are significantly better in the SL. That and all the other extras that Frank listed, in my opinion, make the SL worth very worth considering.

I like my SL. The CVT is nice and the extra things like the map lights, a-pillar tweeters, alloy wheels, and whatever else is different between the S and SL.

I set out to buy an "S" back in early January, 2007. I wound up with an SL with CVT and ABS because I discovered the S was not available with cruise control. Cruise control was a deal breaker for me, as I use it constantly. I am still very happy with my choice, 40,500 miles later. Damn I love that car... so smooth and quick, the CVT transmission adds a whole new dimension to driving I never thought possible. I previously owned a 2004 Frontier 4 cylinder with a Nissan Slam-O-Matic transmission.

I have cruise control as well as ABS on my 08, S so it might be a package deal.
