I'm looking to buy a Q45, either first or second generation. I've found some Q45t's for sale, but when I look up the VIN numbers they always show the trim level as "A/Base". I've never seen one listed as Touring, is Touring not actually a full trim level but just an options package? In any case, besides the trunk lid, what are some obvious indicators to look for to confirm that a Q45 is indeed a Touring edition?

I'm sure you've already read the basics on Wikipedia.
Infiniti Q45 wiki

For more in depth info on a particular model year you can head over to Infiniti News to check out the press releases.

I have indeed read the Wikipedia article, and it suggests that Touring *is* a full trim level, at least for the first generation. If that's accurate, it isn't reflected by any of the VIN numbers I have looked up.

And unfortunately that Infiniti News website makes no mention of Q45 prior to the year 2000, so it's no help for first OR second generations.

The Infiniti website is a little clunky, even if you're using a proper PC. The site does go back before 2000, but only to 1997.

Although Infiniti may have (or used to have) a database to know what trim level matches a VIN, I don't think there's anything specifically in the VIN that indicates trim levels or option packages.

Maybe looking up the VIN on the parts site would tell you more information based on the parts it says are a match?
