My damn dealer tried to rip me off, I had a flat tire so i checked where the air was comming from, there was a nail in the center off the 'patch'(tread i guess), and so i filled it up so that i could drive it to the dealer to see if maybe our warranty might have like a 30 day repair-tried and no luck- so i had to leave the car there and they charged me $20 to fix the damn thing. I figured it was worth it rather tahn taking it to a ghetto place and have them break my TPMS sensor. anyway back to the issue. I got a phone call from the service advisor saying that they are going to replace the whole tire! so i freaked and asked why. She told me that the nail was in the side wall. I told her NO! that nail was no where near the side wall. she called me back and said I took another look at it and it was fine sorry about that. Just thought that i would share this with every one since it was so rediculous.

its generally a good idea to assert up front that you wont take any crap from a garage. within a few mnutes of explaining what the problem is, i have dropped enough hints that i am pretty competent with a wrench and that i will be very critical of any work performed. im not a jerk about it, but i have yet to be ripped off since i started getting very picky about what im charged for ...i generally wont go to a shop unless

a-its something i cant fix easily

b i at least have an idea as to whats wrong...ive had several bad experiences with "throw parts at teh proble" mechanics.

bottom line, all shops are businesses that watch their bottom line very closely, if you allow them to, they will make as much money as they can from your car and your lack of common sense.
