My 89 240 auto trany shifts at 3000rpm every time and it kicks like hell every time until it gets to the higher gears. Any ideas? Pretty sure the kick is due to it coming off the low gears at a high rpm, I need some ideas on why its not shifting regularly. Ive heard it maybe due to a vacuum hose but they all seem fine, TCM need more info on that, or the tps... help!!!!

if you can't find the problem,

just replace the transmission with a used one, they can't be but maybe 100 bucks..

Did you see if you were throwing any transmission codes? When you start the car does your od light flash a few times?

Yeah forgot to mention that the OD light flashes about 10 times when i start the car

Sorry for the late response.... When it first comes up it stays on for about 5 seconds, then it blinks 16 times...

Hmm according to alldata it should only flash like 10 times and if it's got an issue it will hold one of those 10 flashes for a bit longer than the rest......... 16 doesnt' sound right.

ill go check it out again but counted it a couple of times... ill start the car this time, before i was just putting the switch on...

i say just drop the stupid auto transmission and get a 5spd

Yeah that's the direction it seems to be heading... What interests me is that it was fine, the car overheated on me and I had to change the HG, when I put it back together it started messing up. So i dont know if I plugged something in wrong or what... Ill prob end up going 5 spd just have to get the parts and set time aside to do it...

Oh yeah... it has about 190,000 miles on it....

190 isn't the worst I've seen but there's no use beating a dead horse. 5 speed ftw!

im right around there aswell, if i had an auto id deff switch it out. make sure u get a nice clutch! i managed to break my crappy cheap one.

Thank for the suggestions ... any suggestions in how to find all the parts in one sweep?? Also how well are the write ups on here for the swap? read over some but want to make sure they cover everything? Last question, after the swap does the tach and everything work properly or is there extra things that must be done ?? Thanks
