I have a 92 240SX SE. W/ Digital Cluster

I know that when the speedo goes out it usually takes "warming the car up: before it comes on. Mine has the opposite problem. It comes on for 5 seconds but only if I disconnect it from its harness and reconnect. (even then its not a 100% thing) So clearly it wouldn't be the same deal... Here's what I've done so far.

My Speedo has not worked since I got the car.

Recently, I tried to do the HUD Cluster Fix.

After removing the cluster I plugged just the speedo back into its harness.

When I turned the key it !!!LIT UP!!!

Then died after about 5 seconds

So I start testing the capacitor, but the the unit never powered back up.

I disconnected it and reconnected it and it lit up agian then died after about 5 seconds.

So I kept testing capacitors like the article said.

I got to about the third one when the speedo slipped out of my hand and hit the ignition. Causing a spark and some smoke.

But the when I unplugged it and reconnected, it came on again.

Does anyone know what the issue could be...

**More Importantly, since the spark fixing the speedo I've had some problems.

** Odometer doesn't work**A.S.C.D. doesn't work**Dash Lights Don't work

The tach works,The Gauges workThe signal lights work (CEL, Brake, Ect)The speedo came on the FIRST time I started it after putting everything back together, but went out right away again.

I have checked all fuses under the dash and in the engine compartment as well as the fusable links (just in case)

PLEASE HELPThe loss of cruise and my odometer really sucks

BTG - I'm at a loss on this one, unless something fried on the circuit board on the back of the speedo cluster...

I'll link this to a few guys who are more knowledgeable here and see if we can figure it out...

how did you test them? i'd just replace all the old fuses with new fuses.

I tested the ohms with a multimeter. But if the whole board was fried, then It would not have powered back up temporarily... Right?

Is there any point where the ASCD dashlights and odometer all come together. A fuse I don't know about or a relay or something?????

UPDATE: Still screwed, but making progress

This morning, my digital speedo lit up for almost 30 seconds!!For the first time I was able to drive forward while it was still lit up.

**The speedo is not registering. **

it stayed at 0mph until it shut down. I'm gonna try to find a replacement speed sensor.

That could explain why the odometer and cruise arn't working. Still getting nowhere on my dash lights.....
