Tried some Mochi. Very odd treat.

Pardon my messy desk. I went to Global Foods and bought a Japanese ice cream treat called Mochi. Never tried it before.

There's a gelatin layer that you have to chew threw to get to the soft ice cream core. Its chewy and thick, covered in flour to keep it from sticking to your fingers. Underneath is smooth mango ice cream. Flavors include chocolate, green tea, and strawberry.

Its bizarre and I probably won't buy it again. I'm not sure who thought a chewy exterior would complement ice cream.

I like those things.
Strawberry and Green tea are my favorites.

Those are mochi icecreams though, real mochi is filled with things other than icecream.

I also bought another brand of lychee ice cream. Its wonderfully refreshing.

I also saw red bean and yam flavors, which I'll definitely try when I feel more daring.

I had some in LA. It was not for me. My sister likes them. I had mango also, couldn't finish it.

Ack.

Red bean is gross. It reminds me of this horrible crap soda that I tried in the Coca Cola factory tour in Atlanta...
I can't understand what's up with people's taste buds.

I'm not a big ice cream fan, but I love those strawberry crunch bars, since I was a wee lad.

Jesda, isn't it rice cake on the outside of the ice cream balls? I know the Korean version of that same treat has rice cake around the ice cream. It's kinda like condensed sticky rice that has lost all consistency and texture.

Dan, I have lots of both of those in my freezer. i was hooked up by the Blue Bunny guy at our tradeshow. I came home with 2 cases of the strawberry shortcake bars, and 1 case of the strawberry ice cream sandwiches...

Thats what it seems like, though the box mentioned the use of gums and gelatins. I suspect that lasts longer in shipment.

I don't know why, but to me, ice cream is only refreshing when it's cold out.

I'm not a HUGE Mochi fan, but if I'm going to eat it I prefer the red bean.

I thought you had eaten everything in the world, how had you never tried Mochi?

If you like strawberry ice cream, they would be great. I don't. I like the shortcake bars, but they are different.

The Green Tea ones make me vomit. The chocolate and the strawberry are both very good. Haven't decided on the Mango yet.

The coating is supposed to be some form of rice pasty but I mean, let's be honest here. What isn't made better by some boiled, dessicated animal tendon?

Only ever had the green tea ones. Wasn't a fan. Girlfriend was thrilled; she didn't have to share.
