Well, like the title says, I tried my hand at painting tonight. Recently I bought a vented headlight cover, got it off a guy for $50. I didn't really want to wait until I get my car repainted (which might be over a year away) so I ordered some Dupli-Color color matched auto spray paint, clear coat, filler primer, 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper and some Dupli-Color Prep Wipes. Cost me less then $50 for the lot. Well, on with the pictures:

Here is the Vented headlight cover and all my supplies:

The color matched paint:

After sanding and three coats of filler primer:

After re-sanding and three coats of color:

And finally, after three coats of clear:

I know the pics of the color look kind of orange but it's not...it's just the camera phone and lighting. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I'll post some pics after I install it tomorrow.

very cool. can't wait for the pics installed - will really show how close that red is to your car (oem paint I'm assuming).

one note: please paint that grill black again

I'm excited to see how it looks as well. Yes, it is the OEM color. And about the grill...I smacked my forehead after I started priming it...I forgot to mask off the little grill . Oh well...it will be easy to repaint.

That grill should be left unpainted. It's just chicken wires, so you can buy some from home depot and redo it using a glue gun.

Good job!

probably less work to just do very light sanding and paint it black either by masking off & spraying or by using a brush.
