Hey guys, my J has been sitting for a while, and I am putting it back on the road in another month or so.

I want to do a really thorough detailing of the car, and need to do a nice cleaning of the headliner. It seems really delicate, and I don't want to screw it up.

I had some water leak through the sunroof control, and need to remove this. Any advice? The rest of the interior is in great shape, as you can see and I want the headliner to do it justice!

Sorry to rant, just looking for any tips on advice on what you guys do with your J's!

Thanks guys, any tips WOULD BE GREAT!!!

I will be watching this one too. I bought a 93' J30 with an excellent exterior but a pitiful interior and 195k milage. It had been sitting two years and the back carpet is a bit black. The headliner is ok but dirty. I drove it thru the carwash and I got soaking wet. I removed the headliner and saw the sunroff mechanizem was really fugged up. The seal was shrunk up so bad I could see the sky. So I removed those two items also. I made 4 brackets to bolt he sunroof door flush into the opening and have appied liguid rubber into the seams. So far the rubber is still curing but it looks good on top. i just want to drive it. I have to find out how to attach the headliner back up without the sunliner frame. Then I do need to clean it or I clean it and then put it bak up.t

Seems like a common problem, dirty headliner, and not knowing exactly what to use to clean it...

I'm following this one too!

I used Blue Coral upholstery cleaner, I vacuumed the headliner firstand then sprayed the cleaner unto a smooth sponge and scrubbed let dry and vacuum. Not like new but 100% better then what it was.

Do not use any rotory scrubbing tools I tried and it pulled and delaminatedthe material from the headliner.

That's a good idea - why not be more helpful. I assume you glued the suede to the existing headliner? What glue did you use? Did the glue leak thru the new material? Did it work for you? I'm not in the business and over two dollars short of having it done. Don't be shy either please.

tks je

o no it was VERY easy...and didn't come threw or anything...very easy and very worth it

1.get headliner out and strip off all the old fabric (make sure it doens't have any bumps or anything on it)

2. get fabric and a can of hi-strength spray adhesive, it's about $18 but it's worth it, mine was green, made by 3m and says 90 on it.(ask the ladies at ur fabric store what to use for ur headliner)

3. spray in on ur headliner board and ur fabric, do about a foot at a time..the adhesive sprays out easy and looks like spiderweb...

4. don't be shy with the glue, a good coat but not to much, my suede was black and it didn't go threw. 5. now just cut enough to fold back and glue to the back side so it looks smooth on the edges...
