Quite a few threads mention that the ECU needs to be tricked to use the 5-speed, but what needs to be done? Can I modify the wiring harness or do I need a re-programmed ECU? Picking up my VH tonight.

Dont worry about it, it wil throw a code but no CEL... in other words, everything will be fine. When you go to get your reprogrammed ECU from me I think I can disable the AT.

Perfect. I figured I'd have to do something to make it think the transmission is in neutral so I can start it.

Just picked up an engine and it's in about 1000 pieces. I'm going to need some help from everyone here to get it back together.

That brings up another point, what is everyone doing as far as dash lights? I've already got a mechanical speedo so that's no big deal, and the tach situation can be worked out. Just curious how everyone is getting to get their existing dash lights and interface port to work. I'll have to go look at the wiring harness...maybe it comes with a new port alltogether.

honestly if it were my swap, i wouldnt give a damn about the dash lights. No one needs the idiot light for the oil pressure thing (you should have a pressure gauge anyway) and the CEL isnt really needed either, because if the CEL comes on you should know it by how its running, or its some stupid emissions crap that doesnt effect you.
