Alright, I got a good deal on an engine and trans, KA24DE. Its out of a 93 hatch. one catch have to drive to shelbyville In. , well thats not so bad, but considering I live in charlotte NC, thats one heck of a drive. So I get my room mate to go with me, he kinda doesnt want to but I club him in the head and drag him along any way. ( we both drive 240's and we both are jonesen for a spare engine to work on). So its settled, Im gonna drive up there in one night 9-10 hrs one way, get the engine and drive back. OK, next step, get a truck to haul it. Enterprise rentals quotes me a good deal, 35$ for a truck, im like ok. get to the rental place, And it goes up to 80 because im under 25, going over 200 miles, and other crap. ok I pay it, still a good deal on an engine. Well I get about 40miles out and want to listen to a cd in this extended cab dakota they put me in, ( nice truck by the way), and it eats my cd, well I got 8 more hours so I have to listen to the radio, this is when it starts to suck. we call the guy when we get to west virginia, ok, engine is still in vehicle, not really expecting that, thought it would have been pulled already, hes having trouble getting a picker. ok. not a problem still got 4 hours for him to get it on the ground. well I take a nap and let my room mate drive. wake up lost in kentucky. LOST (it gets worse). we ask for directions, ok were just a little off track so we back track, get back on what we think is the right road, keep going , keep going , stop again and ask for directions. Man walks out, says were in maysville KY, and he is wearing a shirt that says "I love my testicles", im not one to argue with a guy wearing that kind of shirt, or a guy that looks like they can tear me limb from limb, so we get out of there(He also knew the exact milage to get to every road we needed to get to.................... scary). We finnally get there,4:00am, ok engine still in car, picker cant be had till 7:30am, damn, this sucks, ok lets get something to eat. "lets go to waffle steak" they say "whats a waffle steak" we say, man we drove 600 miles to eat in a waffle house with a different name, smae stuff, even signs with waffle house on it( it was rough). 7:30 am, we get the picker takes me 30min to pull it out and get it on the truck and get the piucker back to the shop we rented it from.( Haulin azz pullin that engine). well we leave, say good bye.this is about 930am when we finnally get all the way on the road, ok long drive supposed to be half way home by now, still in ohio. see road sign that says 52, well we need to get on 52, so we take it. ITS THE SENIC ROUTE. this takes us way out in the country. well we keep going.we get home at 6:00pm the next day. sleep deprived, hungry and with no way to get the engine off the truck....... see I told you it gets worse........ call up buddy that I help out with his car say I need a pair of hands to help lift an engine........ my man comes through brings 3 other big guys to help ( score one for favors). we get it off the truck, take the truck back with 1200miles on it. place is closed, have to pay an extra days rental cause I was late. so its up to 160 for the rental. Im pissed, well I get home pass out. get up next day start taking the transmission off the engine, and behole what do I see( treasure remember) An ACT six puck clutch, man I didnt ask for that, oh well finders keepers( it gets better), next I start looking further, whats that, is that, why yes its an aluminum flywheel, looks like a Fidenza, but there are no markings, SCORE, so for the price of a rental lots of gas and bad waffle house food I gots me a transmission , an engine, whats left of a 6 puck clutch and an aluminum flywheel............... any one know where to get a new friction surface =)
