Post

Hi All,

I have an Infiniti QX4 2000/2002 model. Few weeks ago to this time, i noticed that the gear will not engage in D immediately. This happens early in the morning and anytime the car is parked for longer hours except in 1 mode. The delay was initially for 2 or 3 seconds but it has increased to several minutes. I had drained the transmission oil and cleaned the filter in the sump but still same result. But once it engages, it works normally for as long as i drive the car. Once, the engine is warmed, it then begin to engage in D once i did not parked it for longer than 1 or 2 hours.

Please, can help with how to solve this problem

Sounds to me like a sticky valve in the valve body. Has the transmission fluid been changed regularly? If not, change it now and then at the same time as every oil change until the problem disappears or it gets worse. Contrary to what some manufacturers like to tell people (such as BMW, and I'm a BMW fan) A/T's like fluid changes. They live longer with them.

Great advice, Mike!

[Off topic - LOL @ Whine Country, haha! Also, how do you like your 525? I have an 02 525it as well... Learning about it in my spare time!]

The 525it is good, but not as good as the 2000 528it we had that preceded it. Not so much on full throttle, but in everyday driving it really misses the 300cc's. It's got it's quirks, but it's a solid car that's running 4.3 cents per mile maintenance and repair for the 60K we've had it. With me doing all the work of course.

Good to know. I'd love to pick your brain sometime, if you wouldn't mind. :)
