trasmission codes?

ok, so i assume that there are codes for specific transmissions as there are for the engines, diff's & whatnot, but i am unable to locate WHAT they are. if anyone has any answers as to where i can find this, or if they can simply tell me what the code is for the auto transmission in a 1991 AUTO 240, that would be appreciated.

If you mean model numbers, the 91 AT is a RE4R01A.
