TRANSPONDER CHIPS

anybody know when nissan started putting transponder chips for the ignitions in their cars? if so what year and models. don't know if my 03 sentra type r spec v has one. please help!!!

Transponder chips? I'm guessing you mean the security lockout "Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer" feature.

Look at your key, if it has a little blue rectangle where the metal comes into the plastic handle, you have the Immobilizer system.

Oh, and there's no "Sentra Type-R Spec V." It's SE-R Spec V.

IIRC only SE-Rs with the Rockford package had immobilizers. See if a key-shaped red light illuminates in the instrument cluster when you turn the ignition on, if so you have it.

cool thanks guys!! my car was stolen and the cops are trying to say that i did it. and yeah it is and SE-R SPEC V. sorry . doesnt' have the blue rectangle. however my car did have the Rockford stereo system in it but no key shaped red light illuminated in the instrument cluster. but anyhow, the car could have been towed when they stole it. right?

Sure, but if you didn't have the immobilizer, they could have stolen it the old fashioned way.

yeah it had it. went to a locksmith and a nissan dealer. both said that it did have the transponder chip. the only thing i can think of is that somebody used a car dolly and lifted the front end to tow it or they just had a tow truck. it's been known to happen around the harrisburg pa area. so now the pigs will be coming after me along with the insurance co. for insurance fraud. talked to an attorney about it.
